We all have a preference for cold or hot drinks, but is water better for you one way or the other? Your choice of water temperature can influence how much you will drink, so it is generally best to go with your personal preference. According to dietitian Matthew Landry, cool water is usually best because "it is the most palatable.” Room temperature is also recommended because it is comfortable to drink, so you are likely to drink more and stay hydrated. Cold water could trigger gastrointestinal hypersensitivity or teeth sensitivity causing you to drink less overall The temperature of water has very little effect on your body, as your body absorbs it regardless of temperature. There is no evidence to suggest that any particular water temperature has digestive or overall health benefits. However, consuming drinks that are too hot does come with risks, as consuming very hot liquids over a long period of time has been linked to esophageal cancer.
